Who We Are

We are located beside Sunnyside United Methodist Church (2800 Gull Rd), but strive to be truly a garden belonging to and led by the community of the Eastside. It has existed at Sunnyside since 2012 and has expanded tremendously in its eight years. The main garden plot is approximately 5,000 square feet that includes a variety of perennial vegetables each year as well as annuals such as grapevines, rhubarb, and an asparagus patch. Additionally the garden has raspberries, blueberries, a young orchard, and a strawberry patch. The garden is a partnership between Sunnyside United Methodist Church and Fresh Fire A.M.E.

What We Do

The Growing Community Garden is a communally tended “foraging” garden beginning to integrate permaculture techniques. We are open and free to the neighborhood surrounding Sunnyside United Methodist Church. We have weekly volunteer opportunities to work in the garden as well as events throughout the season including a Planting Day, harvest parties, and garden centered meals made with food from the garden.
