We are looking for those who are willing to help organize and distribute food to the community once or twice a month. The time commitment is between 2-4 hours per distribution date.

The reason for this, is that we will likely have students present helping, and our national office requires anyone who is volunteering in proximity with students go through our full volunteer application process including background check.

At Taste of Heaven, we make and sell delicious gourmet popcorn and sweets. The proceeds from sales go to support Kalamazoo Youth For Christ, a local organization that provides mentoring, tutoring, meals, and bible teaching to at-risk teens.  While volunteer groups are very helpful during our busy Christmas season, we are specifically looking for volunteers who can come in during the day on weekdays on a regular basis. Typically, volunteers come and work a few hours in the mornings, although more hours are appreciated during the holidays. The schedule can be flexible, and you can work as much or as little as you like!  Regular volunteer tasks include but are not limited to:  -popping popcorn -drizzling caramel corn -making confections like our famous dipped caramel crispies, gourmet pretzels, and dipped cookie pops -packaging and sealing popcorn and confections -putting together gift boxes -labeling packaging -light cleaning of work area and/or store  -stocking store

Please note, most of the positions involve standing and some lifting. When working directly with food, you will be required to wear gloves, an apron, and a hairnet.

From bingo to exercise, PVM offers a wide variety of daily activities. Assist the activities department or create and oversee your own weekly activity. Example would be coming up with an idea for a craft session with the residents.

From field trips to doctor's appointments, PVM residents are always going somewhere. You would be responsible for transporting residents using our Village buses. Our six class sessions run all throughout the year! Spring, Summer, and Fall are our traditional sessions where we are outdoors at various courses across West Michigan. The joy and comfort a volunteer extend to a hospice patient is tremendously rewarding. MacDudley Dragon Entertainment LLC is seeking a volunteer to help with social media postings. Interested in someone who can post on a regular basis throughout the many different platforms used. This would include, Youtube, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram. The idea is to help spread the word and help advertise and market the upcoming festivals this organization puts on throughout the year.

Kalamazoo Defender serves Kalamazoo County as the public defender for those who are faced with criminal charges and are appointed an attorney by the Court. We also provide holistic services including case management, referrals to community partners, and a hub where clients can meet directly with community partners. We are in need of volunteers for the following roles:

- Court Watching: Volunteers will observe court proceedings and take notes on commonalities or differences in the treatment of our clients by the Court.

- Resource Closet: Volunteers will organize donated clothing and hygiene products in our Resource Closet.

Volunteers in this position are stationed in the Resources Center. They support Guest Services staff by greeting guests and welcoming them in a friendly manner. Volunteers in this position are also the Sanctuary’s first impression for guests, and they play an essential role in creating a welcoming and informative environment. The main responsibilities include:

1. Greeting guests and welcoming them to the Sanctuary.

2. Sharing information about activities on the grounds.

3. Suggesting that guests become Sanctuary members.

4. Distributing maps and providing information on programming and upcoming events.

5. Helping to answer or solve various visitor questions or concerns.

6. Helping to run the Resources Center store.

The Senior Volunteer Program is an opportunity for senior citizens, aged 55 and older, to help build critical skills and appropriate development of our community's youth in: Barry, Branch, Calhoun and St Joseph counties. Community Education Presenters

Are you a good public speaker? Are you comfortable talking to a group? If so, the Alzheimer’s Association is looking for you. Our Volunteer Community Educators present scheduled community education meetings on different aspects of the disease to increase dementia awareness and knowledge in our local communities. Upon completion of your training, you will be able to effectively use that knowledge and educate your community about Alzheimer’s disease.

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities.

Senior companions provide individualized support and companionship to adults 21 and older who need extra assistance to maintain their independence. Potential volunteers must be 55 years old or better, live on a limited income, and enjoy helping others. In exchange for their service of 15-20 hrs/wk, volunteers earn a small TAX-FREE hourly cash stipend. Call to learn more about the program or to request an application package.  Must complete an application which includes a confidential criminal history check and references.  Hours: Available hours are Mon-Fri [8am-5pm]; 15-20 hrs/wk. Schedule is flexible and determined by volunteer's availability and client need. Minimum age: 55

Our clients deserve to feel confident and their best when attending a court appearance. We are in need of travel size shampoos, soaps, deodorants, facewash, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. We also appreciate menstrual products. Any donations can be delivered to our office at 151 S. Rose St. 2nd floor.

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services acts as support to first responders during disasters like tornadoes, fires and earthquakes as well as during important training exercises. When our first responders are working long, hot days to keep us safe, they know they can count on The Salvation Army to offer them food, water, and a calm place to take a break.

Volunteers will attend bimonthly training meetings and serve in an as-needed capacity on the Salvation Army canteen (mobile food truck).

Help Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation expand access to program funding assistance by joining us at local community events.

Activities: 

Assist collections manager with organizational tasks related to our 150 year old natural history collection such as cleaning, tagging, boxing, and researching artifacts and historic specimens. 

Assist advisory committee with finding and writing grants, seeking new sponsorships, and advocating for museum collection preservation and education with donors and community partners. 

We need drivers for our Metro Share Van program.  Metro Transit fully trains you and there is no special license other than a valid driver's license.  You pick your hours and days to volunteer.  The schedule is printed weekly and you sign up to drive when you are available.  We are also taking volunteers to drive their private vehicle to transport seniors to medical appointments.

The Vicksburg Historical Society is in need of individuals that are familiar with (or willing to learn about) archiving photographs and documents. We currently have several collections that are in need of processing. This includes measuring items, placing into archival quality storage bags, writing descriptions, and putting into new locations.

These collections include Vicksburg Commercial (newspaper) photographs and Vicksburg Community Schools photographs (sports, students, one-room schools.

Volunteers- Help the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission prepare and box up meals for the homeless. We serve three meals every day to those in need. Approximate shifts are 6am-8:30am, and 3pm-6pm, every day of the week. Wish Granters work with a partner to meet with wish kids and their families to help determine their wishes, and then work with our staff to make those wishes a reality. Wish-granting volunteers must be 21 years of age, attend a wish-granting training and be able to commit to at least one year of volunteering.  Currently, all wish discovery meetings with families are being done virtually.

Great opportunity for sewers, knitters, crocheters, woodworkers and more!  Make clothing (ages 2 to 14), toys, jewelry, purses, etc. that will go to children around the world in shoeboxes filled with love, prayers and your handmade gifts.  Many of these children have never received a gift or heard that there is a God who loves them. So thankful for all who have responded so far.

Our local teams would love to have new (or like new in the case of Beanie Babies) stuffed animals, toys (soccer balls with pumps & needles, dolls, balls, cars, frisbees, Legos, etc), school supplies (pens, pencils, crayons, rulers, chalk, erasers, markers) children's clothing (ages 2 to 14), bar soap,or washcloths.  

We have a goal of packing 5000 shoeboxes full of love, prayers and gifts like those above to go to children in over 100 countries, many of whom have never received a gift or heard that there is a God who loves them.

As we prepare to re-enter the building from the Summer distribution efforts on the outside of the building, we need a lot of help.  All volunteers must be 18 or older, unless part of a group, able to climb stairs, and lift 10-15 pounds.  There are many roles in which to serve our hurting neighbors:  greeter, receptionist/data entry, donation intake worker, clothing assistant, warehouse worker, newsletter writer, fundraiser, teacher (for art/social skills classes), etc.  Let us know what your talents/skills/interests are.  You may be able to add new energy to the life of the ministry.  If you have a few hours per week to give the Kalamazoo Dream Center, your help would be appreciated, and you would be making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Our Communities In Schools After School Programs are in great need of volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help students with homework time, provide tutoring, and run after school clubs and groups. Volunteers are needed at the elementary and middles school level. All volunteers must provide proof of Covid vaccination and allow us to run proper background checks. Tutors are greatly needed for students in Kalamazoo Public Schools at all grade levels. Volunteers needed to volunteer at least one hour per week. Background check is required.

Helping Our Neighbors (HON) is a ministry at our church to help people in the Kalamazoo community with emergency needs, especially when they are facing eviction or utility shut-offs. Through this ministry, our church pledges up to $100 to help pay a person's bill.

There are three ways you can participate in this ministry: 1) Donate money to the fund. The money is much needed and truly used to help people stay warm, have running water, and feel more secure in their homes; 2) Volunteer. We help people affected by disasters ranging from home fires to hurricanes by providing food, shelter, clothing, comfort and hope. Each year, volunteers respond to approx. 2,300 local disaster across the state of Michigan.

Disaster Action Team Member:

Training is provided and Local DAT members work a scheduled, on-call shift. Only local volunteers are eligible for national disaster response deployments.

The Battle Creek VA Medical Center collects and distributes full size 2 in 1 body wash/shampoo, deordorant, shaving cream, razors, tooth paste, tooth brushes, mouthwash, and word searchs to newly admitted Veterans and other Veterans in need. 

We do not accept sample or hotel size items, bar soap, and mouth wash must be alcohol free.

Volunteers are needed to assist DHHS case manager with monitoring/observing supervised parenting time between child and parent at DHHS.  Some travel may be required to transport children to locations such as local parks or restaurants (required use of State Vehicle). Majority of parenting supervision is held at the DHHS office.

As a Volunteer Driver you could assist low income individuals attend medical, substance abuse and counseling appointments, assist parents visit with children that have transportation barriers.

Volunteer Drivers do not receive a wage; however they will receive the state reimbursement rate is $.56 per mile and or meals for long trips (that qualify for meal reimbursement).  Background check required for driving record and insurance.

The SHARE Center serves over 30,000 healthy and delicious meals each year to people in need. We have been able to meet needs through the generosity of the community. Without donations and volunteers, it will be very difficult for us to continue meeting the growing need for food assistance. We are looking for volunteer in the kitchen helping our cook prepare and serve meals as well as helping clean up afterwards. Catholic Charities Diocese of Kalamazoo needs driving volunteers to deliver food to families/individuals in need in Battle Creek county on Fridays during the week.  Driving volunteers will pick food up at our Central Distribution site and deliver to address(es) given. Our transportation support team will contact person in need to let them know you're on the way! Leave the food on doorstep.

Volunteers are needed at Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries two thrift stores: Rescued Treasures in Kalamazoo and Simple Treasures in Portage. 

Both stores are open from 10am-5pm Monday-Friday, and 10am-3pm on Saturdays. Duties include, but are not limited to: sorting and receiving donated items such as clothes or shoes, organizing clothing racks on the sales floor, and assisting staff with customer service, such as greeting customers and helping them to find what they are looking for.

The Companion Volunteer will provide companionship, play cards/games, watch TV, take the patient out into the garden area for fresh air, read to patient, etc. There is no physical care involved.

Hours are very flexible, weekdays, evenings or weekends. Typically, we ask that you would visit your assigned patient 1-2 hours per week.
