Who We Are

SLD Read is a non-profit community resource, established in 1974, to provide instruction for students who have not succeeded with traditional teaching methods. Our vision is a community working together for literacy that empowers all individuals to achieve their full potential. SLD Read’s Phonics Fundamentals © program is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching language arts skills. It is a research-based approach that teaches structured phonics, phonological awareness, knowledge of syllable division rules, spelling rules, and generalizations in a multi-sensory way. A student’s opportunity for success is increased because lessons build on previously taught concepts and are presented in a systematic, cumulative, sequential fashion. SLD Read’s Phonics Fundamentals© training program has been accredited by the International Multi-sensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) and is an IDA Recognized Program, meeting the IDA Standards for Teachers of Reading.

What We Do

SLD Read helps individuals with dyslexia, learning differences, and other reading challenges to develop lifelong language skills through a multi-sensory program. We assist educators in identifying learning challenges and provide training and techniques to enhance their reading curriculum. We also increase community awareness and understanding of literacy issues by offering free community workshops and resources.
