Welcome to First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo! We extend a welcome to all who would like to join us and be a part of our faith community that believes in celebrating, experiencing and sharing God’s love. Although we are diverse in many ways, we are united in a common commitment to Christ and a shared vision of ministry to all of God’s people.

First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo invites all persons to join us on our journey of faith. Jesus Christ calls us to be an inclusive church that exemplifies the kingdom of God. We strive to move toward reconciling relationships with all, affirming those who are marginalized for any reason, including sexual orientation or gender identity. We welcome all with open hearts, open minds, open doors.
What We Do
With a congregation numbering around 800 members, you would expect First United Methodist Church to have a healthy participation in groups and fellowship. You would probably still be surprised by the amount of cooperation and involvement at this church! Everything from committees to teams to small groups—First Church is alive with people who are doing the work of Jesus Christ all week long. This is no “Sunday-only” church. Members here not only participate and volunteer, but they welcome others to do the same.

Below are some of our local mission opportunities!
Bronson Park Food Pantry
Helping Our Neighbors – rent and utility assistance
First Stitchers – hand sewn, knit, and fleece blankets; and knit hats and mittens that are distributed to local ministries (Gospel Mission, Child Protective Services, Healty Start, Family & Children Services, etc.)
Outreach Team – monthly ‘Mission of the Month’ collections that benefit a community need
Ramp Up – ramp builds for the disabled
Youth Mission Projects – various projects throughout the year
Blessing Bags – non-perishable food collection in November
The church also feels that our beautiful building is an ideal place for community ministries to have meetings. We have offered room space for a nominal donation for ministries such as Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous, Lou Gehrig’s Disease Support, Perinatal Mood Support, Moms Demand Action Against Gun Violence, Kalamazoo Area Wild Ones (educates the practice of landscaping with native plants), and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute classes offered by Western Michigan University.
